Economics Systems Group

The Economics Department's I/S Team (Econ-Systems) provides computer support for over 300 users in the department, including all faculty, students and staff. The team currently consists of two full-time IT Professionals, several Northeastern University Computer Science Co-Op students and several graduate and undergraduate lab TAs. Our goal is to provide the economics community with state-of-the-art technical resources and support services. Please let us know how we can better serve you.

Economics Computing at MIT

MIT Economics provides state-of-the-art computer lab facilities available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Graduate Computer Cluster hosts high performance Windows based workstations which run a variety of econometric and statistical software packages. Our computing infrastructure also includes a constantly expanding array of powerful Unix-based batch-processing servers, high speed printers, a robust and secure data backup system that includes the availability of user accessible snapshots, and color document scanners. These resources are easily accessible from off campus. To support these systems, the labs are staffed by two full-time I/T professionals and a number of computer science co-op students. Graduate students may also look to several computer-lab user consultants for assistance and direction. The user consultants are drawn from the ranks of current economics Ph.D. students. They provide training for new users as well as intermediate assistance with programming problems. The department offers a student taught programming course designed to acquaint both graduate and undergraduate students with popular programming languages.
