Location and Living Arrangements
The Economics Department is located in the Sloan Building at the east
end of the MIT campus, overlooking the Charles River. The Sloan
Building contains the offices of the faculty,
thesis writers, and visiting scholars. It is one of a complex of five
buildings that also house the Sloan School of Management, the
Department of Political Science, the Programs in History and in
Science, Technology and Society, the Energy Lab, the Statistics
Center, class and seminar rooms, lounges, dining, and computer
facilities. The Dewey Library occupies two floors in this complex and
contains the social sciences collection at MIT, reading rooms and
carrels.
The Sloan Building is located one block from the Kendall Square subway
station and public transportation is convenient
from Boston and its suburbs. On-campus housing is available for single
students, married students, students with a spousal equivalent, and
students with children. All interested
students must enter the housing lottery. Students who receive a campus
housing assignment will be notified in May of their assignment.
Students who do not receive a housing assignment in the first round
will be placed on a waiting list. Complete information on the housing
application process, the residences, and off-campus housing assistance
is available at http://web.mit.edu/housing.
